What a whirlwind of a day! I barely had a moment to sit down, but I suppose that's to be expected.
The morning started early as always—Tom left for work before sunrise, and I packed him a thermos of coffee and a sandwich for lunch. After he was out the door, I got the children ready for school. Johnny misplaced his shoes again, and we nearly missed the bus! I don’t know how that boy manages to lose things so easily.
Once the house was quiet, I did some tidying up. The lemon chiffon cake I made yesterday looked lovely sitting on the counter. Around 10:00, I headed to the Ladies' Auxiliary meeting at the church. It was a good turnout—Mrs. Patterson gave a talk on the upcoming charity drive, and we all agreed to help bake for the fundraiser. The cake was a hit, too. Mrs. Thompson even asked for the recipe, though I’m still not sure it turned out as good as usual.
After the meeting, I stopped by the grocer’s. They had fresh strawberries on sale, so I couldn’t resist picking some up. Maybe I’ll make shortcake this weekend. Tom loves that.
When I got home, I had just enough time to start dinner before the children returned from school. Johnny was full of energy, telling me all about how he caught a toad at recess. Sally, on the other hand, was quieter than usual. I think something may be bothering her, but when I asked, she just shrugged and went off to do her homework. I’ll keep an eye on her.
Supper was simple tonight—pork chops and scalloped potatoes. Tom looked tired again, but we had a nice chat after dinner. He mentioned something about new machinery at the plant and how it’s causing more problems than it’s fixing. I can tell it’s weighing on him, but he doesn’t say much.
Now, the children are in bed, and I’ve finally had a moment to sit with a cup of tea. The house feels so peaceful at this hour. I’ve been thinking more about our trip to the lake, and I think I’ll start making plans tomorrow. It’s always such a nice escape.
For now, though, it’s time for bed. Another busy day awaits.
